Knightstone House

Joyner Group were appointed by Morgan Sindall to undertake the external façade remediation works to Knightstone House, Weston-Super-Mare.

Joyner Group have worked for Morgan Sindall as a sub-contractor frequently over the past five years all over the South West, although this was their first cladding remediation project together.

Knightstone House was an assisted living block, which remained in occupation whilst works were carried out. Once stripping works had begun it was discovered that every window was fixed into combustible material which could not be removed without replacing all the windows.

Collaborative working between Joyner Group and Morgan Sindall meant that tenants were made aware of what works were being carried out so that any issues could be addressed and programme amended if required. Brackets were designed by Kirkham Board that would enable Joyner Group to cut out the combustible window supports and install non-combustible brackets to enable the correct building insurances to be upheld.

A total of 1000m2 of existing Trespa cladding and battens were removed and disposed. A 1000m2 of new Permarock A1 non-combustible EWI system using 90mm mineral fibre insulation was installed, not only improving the fire rating of the building but also the U-value.
