Andrew Scott - Bristol University Langford Veterinary campus

Joyner Group were appointed by Andrew Scott in 2020 to carry out the external wall insulation and render package at the new Soil-Foundation-Structure Interaction facility for Bristol University at the Langford Veterinary campus.

The facility looks at how buildings and infrastructure interact with the ground when subjected to dynamic loads. The laboratory houses a four-metre (6m x 5m x 4m) deep soil pit for testing foundations, a 50-ton capacity biaxial shaking table for dynamic testing of structures. This amount of movement would transfer through the walls, so the correct insulation system needed to be specified to prevent any cracking.

A Permarock render system was specified comprising of 90mm mineral fibre insulation with a fibre glass mesh reinforced crack resistant base coat and silicone textured topcoat. Additionally, there were vertical and horizontal aluminium 15mm compression joint installed every 3 metres to allow the system to move as much as possible.

A total of 950m2 of Permarock A1 non-combustible EWI system using 90mm mineral fibre insulation, along with 150m2 of Permarock render only to the plant room.
