Joyners 25 years
of Insulating Homes
INCA Award winners, Joyners have been insulating homes with EWI for
more than 25 years. Based in South Wales and Bristol, Joyner PA has
gained the expertise, trusted by many local authorities and main contractors.
Winner of the Andy Swan 2005 Awards for the Knowledge
Spa, Peninsular Medical School, Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. This
is the first phase and centrepiece of the Well Cornwall Project, aiming
to benefit the region's health, education and local economy. The new
development provides 5,750meters of new accommodation on four floors,
giving the medical profession a facility to train students on a working
hospital site. Joyner PA Ltd Bristol installed PermaRock mineral fibre
external wall insulation system to create a flat, self-cleansing and
waterproof finish achieving a thermal performance of 0.25 W/m. A high-performance
silicone textured render finish in two colours contrasted with blue-formed
windows, glazed curtain walling and brick sections to the curved elevation.
Luke Joyner, Director of Joyners, stated: We
worked closely with Mowlems as the main contractor. To be honest it
was a dream job. Any problems were dealt with quickly. Most importantly
the client is happy with the end result and we finished on time.
He continued, Winning the Andy Swan Award gave the team who worked
on the job such a boost.
Joyners were Runners-up in the competition for the Andy Swan Awards
2005, New High Rise Apartments category. In designing Altolusso House,
Bute Terrace, Cardiff, they were required by the local planning department
to retain the existing facade of an interesting old Victorian building,
known as New College. This fronts the entrance and foyer to the three
petals of the luxury new apartment block behind, whose architectural
features reflect the finials of the old building. HMA Architects were
so impressed by the quality finish on Landmark Place, a short distance
away, decided to use the same Weber.Therm system and Joyners to achieve
the same standard of flatness and finish. All facades have some form
of curve and whilst the flat 70mm mineral fibreboards were formed around
this, only a thick coat render on the external wall insulation system
was able to smooth the surface.
Tony Sheehan, joint Managing Director stated: They say that you
are only as good as your last job. The end result of Landmark Place
was so very good; we landed the opportunity to work on Altolusso.
Fuel Poverty affects many households in England and Wales. Many Local
Authorities and Housing Associations are upgrading housing stock to
reduce Fuel Poverty and CO2 omissions, which accounts for 75% of green
house gases. The definition of fuel poverty is a household where more
than 10% of its income is spent on heating their home.
The Joyner Group are leaders in Local Authority work as the main contractor,
specialising in the refurbishment of system built houses such as Airey.
These houses were built approximately 40-50 years ago to house families
who lost their homes during the Second World War. They have just completed
an upgrade of 28 Units for New Forest District Council. With the least
disruption to the residents, Joyners upgraded the homes with Structherm
panels and Brick Slips. To complete the refurbishment the company repaired
and replaced the entire roof, windows, fascias, soffits, gutters, and
installed canopies.
The result speaks volumes and offering the homes
a new lease of life. Steve Tyrell, New Forest District Council stated:
We measure a contractor by the number of telephone calls we get
from residents, and on quality and standards, Joyners completed the
job to our satisfaction, whilst keeping the residents secure and happy.
Joyner PA (Cymru) is in the process of completing
90 Waites houses in Rhymney, South Wales for Caerphilly County Borough
Council in a £1.1 million programme.
The post war, pre cast concrete Waites homes
were in need of refurbishment. Tony Sheehan, joint Managing Director
stated: having worked with Caerphilly CBC in the past on other
system built houses, they were confident that we could deliver the work
with the least disruption to residents.
Joyners upgraded the homes using Wetherby Exterior
Wall Insulation, Dash and Brick Slips. To complete the refurbishment
the company repaired concrete, replaced fascias, soffits, gutters, installed
canopies and re-roofed the out houses. The result lifts the spirit of
the community, who now live in homes that are warm, comfortable and
beautiful to look at.
The labour force used to complete the work are
craftsmen taken from surrounding area. Phil Joyner, joint managing director
stated, Once we start work on peoples homes, they become
our clients. Its essential to build and train a committed labour
force that can be trusted with the homes of people. Our labour force
has worked for the company for many years.
By 2007 Caerphilly council is hoping to reduce
its carbon emissions by 6%. Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of council and
chair of the Sustainable Development Advisory Panel, said, " The
council is committed to working in a sustainable way to make the Caerphilly
county borough a cleaner, greener place to live and work."
